Churches in Britain are amongst our oldest and most richly decorated buildings. As such they form a large part of the restoration side of Clough Harris's work. Historically, church decoration was frequently repainted as surfaces were rapidly discoloured by candle soot. In recent years it has become more acceptable to clean and restore or conserve this decoration where possible. Stencilling and gilding are ubiquitous in church decoration, particularly as the Gothic style is Christian in origin. Marbling and graining can also be found and colours generally tend to be rich and varied. Clough Harris have worked on rural village churches, right through to the Queen's private chapel, Windsor.
